Finding IT companies isn’t difficult, but finding the right one for your business may be more challenging. Not all IT firms are good so you need to do your homework to find a company that will provide you with the services you require. This article presents five questions to ask prospective IT firms to find which one is most suited for your business. You will also find contact information for one of most recommended IT companies.

Meet Your Requirements The first thing to do is to ask the prospective IT company about how it plans to meet your needs. Ask this only when you already have a checklist of things that the potential IT supplier needs to provide. You don’t need to know everything about software and hardware to tell the IT company what you need. Most IT firms will hand you a template that you can fill out and check so that you can tell them what your company needs, and the IT company can get back to you and address those needs specifically.

Look for an Experienced Company The next question to ask will be in regards to experience of the IT companies. You will want to know how long the firm has been in business and how many companies they have served. It is vital to know too how much work the IT solutions group has provided for firms with comparable traits to yours. For instance, if your company deals with finance, hire IT support that knows how to deal with the unique security worries of the financial world.

Will You Obtain Training? Ask about the level of assistance the IT firm is going to provide your business. Will your entire staff be trained, and will they be trained with each change that your system undergoes? Is system maintenance part of the package and will they check if changes are required to meet your growing business? You require this support if you are trying to get technology that is flexible with company growth, and if you are hoping to expand significantly in two to five years.

Now, Let’s Talk About an Important Issue: The Help Desk Response Guarantee A help desk that is easy to reach, and that can easily and quickly solve your IT problems is all part and parcel of great IT management. The problem of downtime might no longer bother you if you get yourself a good IT support network. Find out the help desk response time guarantees at difference IT companies and then ask if they’ll write that guarantee down. If the IT company does not meet its guarantees, then that contract will tell them to start shaping up.

What are their Service Rates? The last question to ask entails the cost of their IT services. While rates may not be the most vital element in selecting a firm for your information technology, small businesses usually operate on a tight budget and so price must be considered. If your IT needs are not intricate, there’s no need to pay a lot for a complicated infrastructure that’s already in place. To fit your needs and budget, you may even prefer the personalized service provided by smaller companies.

You can get the best IT service provider if you ask these basic questions. Some Tips for Preventing Laptop Theft

Posted by: Andrew Verte  :  Category: Computer Support

According to a study released by the Ponemon Institute, business travelers lose a staggering 12,000 laptops each week at airports by their count. According to a survey by the FBI, 97% are never recovered.

This number is even more shocking when you consider that 65 percent of survey respondents indicated they were carrying confidential information - and they weren’t taking any measures to protect that information. This is a lot of sensitive, unprotected information that may be up for grabs because someone got careless in the waiting area of an airport.

The following prevention and mitigation tips for laptop and data theft may help you on your next business trip.

Give yourself plenty of time at the airport. Pack lightly so that you are not overwhelmed by vast amounts of luggage and can keep a close watch on your laptop. Security checkpoints and gates are the two most common places that people lose their computer. Keep careful watch in both of these areas.

Encrypt and back up all of your important files. If you do lose your computer, this will minimize the risk that any confidential company information will be easily accessed by wrong people. With a backup you can quickly rebuild any files and minimize your downtime. Both Windows XP & Vista lets you encrypt folders and files. This is done by right clicking your data, select properties, open the general tab, then the advanced box, and finally check “Encrypt contents to secure data box”.

Another safeguard is to use invisible ultraviolet markings so that any recovered stolen laptops will be clearly identifiable as yours to the police. Storing a copy of your laptop’s serial number somewhere other than your laptop is also a good idea.

Be certain to set up a BIOS Password on your laptop. Although you can easily replace your hardware, your personal data may take months or years to get back so regularly backup your information.

If you do discover that you have lost your laptop, a theft-recovery system like a LoJack for Laptops can help. The system can automatically call in to the Monitoring Center once a day. You can increase the number of calls to the Monitoring Center if your computer is stolen. Your computer can check in with the Monitoring Center and they can initiate a data delete to remove sensitive information before the thief is able to access it.

Tech support said I should get more memory to help my computer run smoother, since I have a huge processor, and my one 512 stick I have is only reporting 504. I ordered a 1 GB, but am inexperienced as to putting it in (which looks pretty straightforward) but am worried about the effect of switch memory sticks on my computer, as I do use this to work on. buying a new computer monitor, have a few questions?

Posted by: Don  :  Category: Computer Support
kmc asked:

I am looking into buying a new computer monitor for work that will be used primarily for viewing and editing digital photos. The monitor I’m looking at has a max resolution of 1920×1200 and it says for optimal performance verify that your system and graphics card support WUXGA resolution. The computer is several years old and a basic gateway, so I assume the graphics card is not exactly top of the line. From what I can find in the device manager, it has an intel 82845G graphics controller. I’m not sure if this is the same as the graphics card. I can’t find much info about it and would like to know if it is a waste of time to buy a new monitor without upgrading the computer. Thanks for any tips.
