I have McAfee antivirus, but can’t open it, but when I talked to a Dell tech he told me not to worry that I can’t open it & not to mess with it, that it’s working fine. So I never need to do an antivirus scan on my computer?

I own two dell computers, work and home. I added memory to the work computer and it went haywire. I started having trouble loading programs (McAfee, iTunes, Spybot, etc.). I wiped the hard drive and started all over. I had trouble loading programs again so I left the memory out and everything was cool. I added it a month later and no issues. What the hell? I added Buffalo memory to my home computer and the same weird things started happening. What gives? Thoughts? What is up with dell and upgrade memory?
